Where the litigation data comes from and territories covered
The litigation data in Cipher comes from two trusted sources: LexisNexis International Litigation Database and RPx.
LexisNexis IP collects patent litigation and patent agency/board decisions from more than 40 websites daily, covering 20 countries and more than 500 individual courts and agencies/patent boards. This includes over 560K cases from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EPO, CJEU, Finland, France, Germany, the UK, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the US. Open Case documents in the US are collected from PACER, and open case fillings in the US and China are also included. This work is double-audited for accuracy.
Cipher also shows whether litigation involves a non-practicing entity (NPE or “patent troll”) or an operational company. This information, which complements MaxVal’s comprehensive litigation dataset, is provided by RPX.
