AI Classification is now available within the PatentSight platform. Classifiers give you accurate and up-to-date patent information on how you view the technology spaces you are operating in and allow you to visualize this data to make better decisions on your portfolio more effectively.
AI Classification reads all the millions of patents globally and pulls the relevant patents into your technology Classifier. The Classifier is defined by you and the machine does all the hard work of going and finding the right patents. The machine can read more than 60 million patents an hour and looks at 200,000 data points in the patent.
If you'd like to learn more about Classifiers, further information can be found here.
If you already have Classifiers available to you in your PatentSight account, please read on to learn how to access the Classifier data.
Where can I find Classifiers in PatentSight?
- In the 'Field Search' section of your New Workbook when you first log into PatentSight, you'll find a '+ More' button (outlined below):
- Select this button. This will then open the 'Add Search field' pop up window. To locate the Classifiers in your account, select 'custom fields', and then select the tile entitled 'Cipher Classifier'. You can also 'favourite' this field by selecting the star in the tile, so that it is available in your 'Favourites' next time you wish to add a Classifier to your search.
- This will then open another window where you can select the 'Classifiers' to be included in your search. I am going to select one, but you can select as many as you choose from the list. Think of them like a technology filter that's added to your search:
- Once you've made your selections, click 'close' and you'll see that the Classifier has been added to your search. You'll also notice the 'add' button next to the Classifier, making it easy to add further Classifiers to the search if required:
How can I use Classifiers to perform an analysis?
One or multiple Classifiers can be added to any search. Think of the Classifier like a technology filter which can be applied to a search to find patent families relating to that technology/or technologies. This type of search shown below searches all patent families globally for matches in the technology area of Virtual Reality (this is the Classifier applied to the report):
You could also combine the Classifier with an Owner search, to find patent families relating to that technology within a specific portfolio or portfolios.
Below I've applied the Classifier to a selected portfolio. This will search Test Research Inc's portfolio for patent families in the area of Virtual Reality:
Below I've applied multiple Classifiers to multiple portfolios. This will search all six portfolio's for patent families in all of the Classifier technologies - AI/ML, Collaborative Robotics, ML/Learning Robots, and Robotic Navigation. The patent families will be grouped into the individual Classifier technology areas within your report, so you can perform your analysis such as competitive intelligence, benchmarking, trend scouting, and portfolio optimisation in your familiar environment:
In the next search below I've added the command 'AND NOT' to the Test Research Inc portfolio. This would search all patent families globally in the area of Virtual Reality, excluding the portfolio of Test Research Inc.
In the next search, I've broken down a tagged set of patent families called 'Portfolio 1', using multiple Classifiers, I created a Technology Matrix chart and used Classifiers on the Y axis, and Owners on the X axis. The tagged assets could be your own portfolio you want to categorise using Classifiers, or a list of assets and you want to learn which of your technology areas they're a positive match to.
There are many other use cases and search scenarios in which you can use Classifiers in PatentSight to enhance your analyses. If you don't already have Classifiers built around the technology areas you're interested in and would like to know more, please reach out to your customer success manager, who will be happy to help you, or send us a note at support@lexisnexisip.com.
