The Data Aggregation in the IPlytics Patent Database is designed to provide users with a comprehensive view of patent information by aggregating data from multiple sources.
This database is built upon the "extended" INPADOC patent family definition, which retrieves all documents directly or indirectly linked to a specific priority document. This approach ensures that users have access to a complete set of patent documents related to a particular invention, facilitating a thorough understanding of the patent landscape.
The aggregation process involves collecting patent data from over 67 worldwide patent offices, resulting in a database that includes approximately 120 million patent documents and over 24 million patent families. This extensive coverage allows users to explore patent information from a global perspective, including full-text data from major patent offices such as the US, EP, CN, KR, JP, TW, and WO. The platform also employs machine translation to make non-English patents accessible to a broader audience.
Level of Aggregation & Navigation
The analytical section aggregates patent families to 3 different levels:
- Families
- Patents
- Documents
For example, let us assume you search for the INPADOC Family Id: 20170511WO2017076102A1, (inpadoc_family_id_search:(20170511WO2017076102A1). Switch from 'Analytics' at the top of the page to 'Search Data'.
Next, select 'Expand by Family':
You'll then see the Documents aggregation on the next page, with details of application and granted documents of this family:
In the Patents aggregation, we will deduplicate the patents which received a granted document. Therefore, from the family we will display the application documents which have not received a grant, and the granted document of the patents which received a grant without displaying the application document of those patents to not have duplications included in this aggregation:
In the Families aggregation, we will display the latest published grant document of this family, which, in the case of the example INPADOC family, is the EP grant:
