Overview
We’re excited to announce an important update to the Wireless Charging feature package in IPlytics. Formerly known as the Qi1 package, this feature has been renamed to better reflect the broader scope of wireless charging technologies. As part of this update, we’ve expanded coverage to include Qi2 declared and undeclared Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). We’ve also applied the new Semantic Essentiality Score (SES) 2.0 algorithm to Qi1 and Qi2 SEPs. (For more on the new SES 2.0 score, see the related Knowledge Base Article here).
This enhancement ensures that users have comprehensive visibility into the evolving patent landscape surrounding Qi2, the next-generation wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).
What's New?
Qi2 SEP Coverage
The updated Wireless Charging package for Qi2 now includes:
- Declared/Pooled SEPs: Patents either officially declared as essential to the Qi2 standard by participating companies or included in public patent pools.
- Undeclared SEPs: Patents identified by IPlytics’ algorithms and expert analysis as likely essential to Qi2, even if not formally declared.
This dual-layered approach provides a more complete view of the IP landscape, helping users assess risk, identify licensing opportunities, and monitor competitive activity.
The Qi2 landscape has also been integrated with the new SES 2.0 algorithm, providing more clarity around potential essentiality of any given Qi2 SEP candidate to the standard.
Why This Matters
Qi2 introduces significant technical advancements, including magnetic alignment and improved power efficiency. As adoption grows, understanding the SEP landscape becomes critical for:
- Patent Licensing & Negotiation
- Competitive Intelligence
- Portfolio Management
- Freedom-to-Operate Analysis
By including both declared and undeclared Qi2 SEPs, IPlytics empowers users to make informed decisions with greater confidence.
How to access the New Data
If you're already subscribed to the Wireless Charging (previously called Qi1) feature package, the Qi2 SEP data is automatically included—no action required. If you need access, please contact your IPlytics’ customer support manager.
