What is Cooperation (CO)?
Cooperation (CO) is an indicator that reflects the level of collaboration in a patent by counting the number of legally independent co-assignees associated with it. Subsidiaries and parent companies are excluded from this count. Finally, counts are normalized by year, country of jurisdiction and main IPC/CPC.
How is Cooperation interpreted?
| /High/ A high CO value reflects a tendency to develop technologies in cooperation with other companies. IPlytics makes use of corporate tree information to rule out subsidiary and parent company cooperation. | |
| /Low/ A low CO value reflects a tendency to develop technologies without cooperating with other companies but conducting research rather internally. |
High Cooperation (CO)
A high CO value indicates that a patent was developed jointly by multiple independent organizations.
- Reflects collaborative development with external partners
- Indicates a tendency to develop technologies in cooperation with other companies
Low Cooperation (CO)
A low CO value indicates that a patent was developed without involvement from independent external organizations.
- Reflects internal development
- Indicates a tendency to conduct research within a single organization
How is Cooperation used in the platform?
Cooperation is one of the IPlytics patent valuation indicators and is calculated at the patent family level. When aggregated across patent families, it contributes to the overall characterization of collaboration patterns within a portfolio in analytical views such as the Indicators tile.
