What is LexisNexis® Standard Essential Patent Data?
LexisNexis® Standard Essential Patent Data is a family of structured datasets covering patent-adjacent data related to declared Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). It is designed for organizations who want to bring standards-development and SEP-related activity into their own research or analytics environment.
The first dataset available is Standards and Contributions. Standards and Contributions brings together four connected areas of standards intelligence: published standards, revision history, development contributions, and meeting attendance. This structure helps you explore the documents, activity, and organizational participation associated with standards development across standard-setting organizations including 3GPP, IEEE, ETSI, IETF, and the JVET/VVC, JCT-VC/HEVC, and JVT/AVC video-coding bodies.
A Declarations dataset is planned as a future addition to the Standard Essential Patent Data family. Standards and Contributions and Declarations are licensed and sold as separate datasets, and customers who purchase both will be able to join them together.
Standard Essential Patent Data is intended to support standards research and prior-art-adjacent search workflows, for example, locating relevant standards documentation and contributions to support patent research, rather than to serve as a standalone SEP analytics or scoring tool.
How does it differ from the LexisNexis® IPlytics™ platform?
While both Standard Essential Patent Data and the IPlytics platform draw on LexisNexis's standards and SEP intelligence, they serve different purposes.
IPlytics is a SaaS platform that provides ready-to-use analytics, proprietary indicators such as Essentiality Scores, and full undeclared SEP landscape views.
Standard Essential Patent Data, by contrast, provides direct access to the underlying structured data itself. It is designed for organizations that want to bring standards and contributions data into their own internal tools, databases, or research and analytics environments.
This makes Standard Essential Patent Data particularly useful for organizations that want to:
- Maintain their own internal standards-research data environment
- Combine standards and contributions data with their own patent research and prior-art workflows
- Build custom research or analytics workflows around standards-development activity
- Integrate standards data into internal systems alongside other proprietary datasets
Customers who need full SEP essentiality analysis, proprietary indicators, or complete undeclared-landscape views should use the IPlytics platform.
Data delivery options
Standards and Contributions is intended to be delivered as a downloadable data product, planned for delivery via Databricks or Delta Sharing.

Summary
LexisNexis® Standard Essential Patent Data gives you direct access to structured data on standards and the SEP landscape, starting with the Standards and Contributions dataset.
By delivering structured records of published standards, revision history, contributions, and meeting attendance, Standard Essential Patent Data enables you to bring standards-development intelligence directly into your own research and analytics workflows — complementing your existing patent search and SEP research.
This makes Standard Essential Patent Data a good fit if you need structured standards-development data to support standards research, prior-art-adjacent search, and internal data integration.
