Starting a report

Where should I start my report in LexisNexis® Classification?

There are different ways to begin your report in the Classification platform, and where you start depends on the problem you're trying to solve, or the question you're trying to answer. The main location to start your report is the 'Report builder' tile in the top left of your Classification dashboard, when you first sign in:

This is your starting point if you wish to be guided through the reporting process. Our Report Builder conveniently places reporting in one location from which you can then choose your reporting options. It also guides you through your options when compiling your data and classification.   Whether you want to generate a Landscape report, or have a selected organisation or multiple owners in mind, a boolean search, custom portfolios or a patent upload as your starting point for your report, these reports can all be created here . To these portfolios, you can then apply classifiers to find patent families of particular technologies, or generate a clustered report to group similar patent families into technology clusters. 

Search Field and Advanced Tools

As you log into Classification, you'll also notice a search bar at the top, with various options listed below it.

This is a quick and easy way to input a patent number, company name or technology to the search bar and the platform will make suggestions for the type of analysis that you wish to review. This could be:

• Suggested Organisation Portfolios
• Reports in your history that match the company name or technology you've input
• UTT Landscape Reports matching the technology you've input
• Similar Family search to the technology or organisation you've input
• Patent Families that match the patent number you've input

Alternatively, if you know straight away as to the type of report you'd like to generate, you can click the various options shown below the 'search' bar as you log into Classification. These include:

• Organisation Search
• Boolean Search
• Patent Upload 
• Landscape Builder

These take you straight to the relevant section of the Report Builder to start your analysis. If you subscribe to the feature, you will also have 'TechDiscovery' as an option here to begin your similar family search:
