Prosecution Pattern Monitors (PPMs) are a powerful tool that provide unique alerts based on prosecution-related criteria.
PPMs are run in PatentAdvisor briefcases. You can create a new PPM by clicking on My Saved Work in the top menu bar of the PatentAdvisor home page.
You can create a new PPM in one of two ways:
-
Open the briefcase you would like to monitor. Click Prosecution Pattern Monitoring.
-
Scroll down to Monitors and click + Create a monitor.
Select the briefcase you would like to monitor.
Name your monitor.
You can describe your methodology in the Description field.
Set your conditions by clicking + Add Condition.
With the “conditions” menu open, make a selection. Each condition allows you to search for all cases within the briefcase that have a particular prosecution feature or pattern. You can only select one condition at a time, most of which will prompt for additional details such as dates, number of occurrences, etc. However, you can re-open the “conditions” menu and add as many as needed.
In this example, the PPM is being set to look for pending cases that have received two or more office actions.
You can also monitor for specific prosecution events by selecting “Prosecution history event.” This condition allows you to filter cases having ANY particular document within the file history.
You will be prompted to choose the event type (click + Add Type) and date range:
With the conditions set, check “Active” to activate the monitor, and check “Weekly digest notification” to receive weekly emails from PatentAdvisor listing any new cases that fit the defined profile.
Click Save. The PPM will then run against the briefcase to find all cases that meet the specified conditions at the time the PPM is run. It will also continue to run in the background and will pick up cases as they move through prosecution and meet the defined criteria.
Once your monitor is saved, you can edit it, copy it, or share it with another user within your account:
Navigating back to the briefcase’s PPM page in My Saved Work will show the results. New results will be added to this list as new cases meet the criteria specified in your conditions.
